The methodology is defined by an iterative 5 step process:

  • Objective & Hypotheses: A clear definition of the Objective (what is the Client trying to achieve) and Hypotheses (what is the Client trying to test). Ensuring that BMA and the Client are clear on the Objective and Hypotheses and the start of the project, will shape the approach to future stages. It is important to note that the Objective & Hypotheses can (and are likely) to be refined over time as the Digital Twin evolves.
  • Value Chain: Defining the complex system that is to be modelled, often (although not exclusively) represented through a value chain. This stage defines the components of the system, how they are physically or virtually connected, how product or data flows between the system entities, and the data granularity required to represent the system in order to satisfy the objective and hypotheses.
  • Risks & Constraints: Shaping the context within which the system operates by representing both the hard (rules that can’t be broken) and soft (rules we’d hope not to break) constraints affecting the system. We would also explore the external context here, where risks and opportunities outside the direct control of the organisation have the potential to impact performance.
  • Interventions & Controls: Specifying the tools and options available to the organisation which are designed to improve the operation of the system or reduce the risks that threaten the performance of the system. Costs and benefits associated with those options are defined and traded, such that the optimal deployment of solutions can be achieved.
  • Business Transformation: BMA will work with the Client to ensure that the greatest possible value is derived from the solution in the short, medium to longer term. By ensuring that the solution provides an exceptional user experience and is effectively integrated with the Client’s Digital Architecture and business / decision making processes, the Client is assured that sustainable value will be derived from their investment.
