Job Category: Value Delivery Consultant

Value Delivery Consultant Water Systems

The Challenge

The UK’s critical national infrastructure is facing once-in-a-generation challenges driven by climate change, demand growth and changes in population. Massive investment is being put forward to address these diverse and multifaceted challenges. If done in the right way, this investment and change can play a huge role in unlocking a sustainable future. In this role you will join a BMA team helping UK water utilities in their ambitious goal to rebalance ageing infrastructure with climate and water supply resilience, ensuring sustainable water systems and networks for future generations, all whilst balancing customer affordability.

Overview

  • As a Value Delivery Consultant at BMA, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our Decisio™ platform.
  • Your primary focus will be on leveraging your expertise in planning and data science skills, to optimise the performance, resilience, and sustainability of water or energy systems for our clients.
  • You will be part of a larger team that provides analytics services to a wide range of customers in numerous different industry verticals.

Your Impact

As a Value Delivery Consultant at BMA, you will work at the heart of the UK's water sector transformation — using the Decisio™ platform to model and optimise raw and potable water systems for utility clients. You will translate complex regulatory and operational requirements into data-driven scenarios that balance ecology, affordability, resilience, and Net Zero goals. Working with digital business twins and advanced optimisation tools, you will help clients make better long-term decisions about their infrastructure — decisions that affect water supply resilience for millions of people.

While your initial focus will be on raw and potable water systems, you will have access to broader opportunities across wastewater, bioresources, and energy infrastructure as you develop within the role.

Responsibilities

The role will require you to be part of a growing company that has a wide-ranging customer base spread across numerous industry verticals in the water & energy utility sectors, amongst others.

  • Drive customer and stakeholder satisfaction through proactive understanding of client business requirements, translating them into modelling solutions. This role is primarily customer-facing.

  • Lead and attend workshop sessions with business stakeholders from time to time to determine business requirements for end-use cases to be deployed.

  • Inform clients' strategic Resource Management Plans and Long-Term Delivery Strategies, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices, using the Decisio™ platform.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support systems planning, offering guidance on efficiency optimisation, energy production enhancement, and resilience planning during critical asset unavailability.

  • Learn the core technologies used by BMA and become familiar with the BMA’s proprietary Decision Intelligence software platform, Decisio™, to create detailed digital representations of clients' connected asset systems.

  • Gather, transform, and validate data to design. As well make use of available technologies to build and validate solution behaviour.
  • Conduct comprehensive scenario analysis and network design optimisation to enhance system performance, efficiency, and resilience, considering various operational constraints, environmental factors, and the strategic ambitions of the client.
  • Understand existing mathematical models and develop additional logic to meet both internal and clients’ requirements.
  • Participate in all aspects of system development, testing, deployment, and feedback with the overarching objective to further enhance and develop Decisio™ for the benefit of the Company and its customers (this could require interaction with other company employees geographically situated around the world).

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor's Degree, or higher, in Mathematics, Engineering, Water Engineering, Water Sciences, Data Science, Statistical/Decision Sciences, or STEM equivalent.
  • Proficiency in advanced analytics and Data Science: statistical analysis, forecasting, predictive modelling, and optimisation algorithms.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, plus familiarity with MS SQL Server, Python, R, linear programming, and optimisation technologies.
  • Track record of driving innovation, delivering tangible results, and thriving in fast-paced environments.
  • Exceptional communication: translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams.

Advantageous

  • Hands-on experience or use of industry-related optimisation models (particularly tools like PyWR).
  • Deep knowledge of wastewater regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Proven scenario analysis, optimisation modelling, and investment planning – balancing technical, economic, and environmental factors.
  • AI/ML experience: machine learning models, neural networks, or AI-driven decision systems for infrastructure optimisation.
  • AI platform familiarity: working with AI-powered planning tools, digital twin platforms, or decision intelligence systems.

Personal Characteristics

  • Passion for leveraging technology and quantitative analysis for real-world environmental benefits.
  • Commitment to tech-driven sustainability in water/wastewater sectors.
  • Strong critical and creative thinking with ambition to drive meaningful change.
  • Pragmatic, goal-oriented, self-motivated, and continuous learner.
  • Energised by flexible workloads and direct client interaction.
