BMA & five national water companies pioneer shared asset investment model
BMA once again shortlisted for an IAM Asset Management Excellence Award, this time recognising our digital innovations in the water and wastewater sector.
BMA (Business Modelling Applications) is a UK-based technology company. Our Decision Intelligence software platform, Decisio™, helps Clients redefine the way they tackle the decisions that matter most.
Founded in 2013, our vision was to develop technology that could take advantage of the oncoming advances in both Advanced Analytics and Data Science, with the increasingly accessible processing power enabled through the cloud.
We recognised that the world is increasingly Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) and that many of today’s significant global challenges are the result of the limitations of decision-making processes in the past. The same is applicable for once successful companies that have rapidly accelerated into decline. Too often complex problems have been approached with siloed thinking and with the scales tipped towards human bias and pre-judgement as opposed to data driven determination.
“Companies, communities and even countries continue to tackle complex challenges using siloed decision-making processes constrained by human bias. When the best of human intuition and experience is effectively combined with the raw processing power of technology a Sustainable future becomes a reality.”
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them”
Albert Einstein
Our technology changes this. It enables Clients to make more holistic, rapid, and connected decisions. It simultaneously democratises the use of AI-assisted Analytics across the entire organisation, empowering the ‘non-expert’ to drive unprecedented levels of Enterprise value. Our software bridges the disconnect between strategic and operational decision-making, allowing Customers to better balance short-term performance with long term Sustainability.
The Decisio™ platform has been adopted by a range of clients and industries but is particularly suited to asset-intensive, energy-intensive and risk-intensive businesses. We help these Clients navigate their profitable transition to a resilient, low-carbon business model, using our proven technology.

Franklin, Agnes & Fish: Why the UK water sector needs Adaptive Systems Planning
The New Storms List, first launched by the UK Met Office in Autumn 2015 as a means of improving communication and public awareness, gives names to any storms with the potential to cause an amber or red warning.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) had predicted that there would be 14 to 21 named storms this year, a number that makes 2023 an above-average year for storms. But how effective are we at predicting storms?
Digitalisation and technological innovation provide the foundation for a national UK Bioresources Model
With the increase in complex challenges such as climate change and population growth, greater certainty is needed around the long-term approach for managing sludge and bioresources to support the delivery of national policies and deliver improved environmental outcomes. More creative and innovative solutions are required.
